Outsider Art Ceramic Women Nude “Barbies” 1960s EX Marvill

Up for sale are 3 nude and sexy low fired ceramic women. These were made in the 1960s by an anonymous artist and were found in a large cache of about 20 total figures.

They were exhibited in a Museum Of Sex exhibition called Known/Unknown: Private Obsession and Hidden Desire in Outsider Art. Part of the collection also showed up in the book about the exhibition.

These were a part of the Marvill collection. Many of their pieces ended up in Ricci and Maresca’s seminal book American Primitive. They were collectors with great taste in Outsider Art.

These pieces range between 3.5 and 5 inches (6 inches if you count the custom stand). See soda can for scale.

The green one has a flat head which I don’t have the best angle of in the photos. Its how it was made, just letting everyone know.

Nice condition as a whole. The seated woman is missing part of her foot. These were low fired ceramics so there is some crazing and crackling in the pottery. A few separation lines from the manufacturing but they are there none the less. Seated woman has some in the back of her head and the standing woman has one on her wrist. Some minor scratching and age related wear. Green woman has a chip or flake off of the top of her head.
