Antique Folk Art Lead Homemade Ship Bookends-1932 -New Carlisle Ohio

$30.00

You have to like this Great Depression era ingenuity. Made for nothing but love. It looks like these were homemade with some sort of lead and crude mold to resemble the more expensive brass ones.
Signed on the bottom in pencil, “From Forest Bowers to Elsie Faye Weaver 1932.” Super folky and charming. Wood definitely looks to date from this time period. Good oxidation.
Elsie Faye Weaver was born in 1891 and passed away in 1985. I got this piece at her descendants estate auction of a multi generational family farm in New Carlisle Ohio, which is north of Dayton.
I think the folky bookends stand on their own merit but the story and knowing the woman they were gifted to just adds to their charm.
About 5 and half inches wide and 3 and 3/8 inches tall. See can for scale.
Condition: Nice condition overall but both show some wear and age. The one’s wood backing is split. The other one has a chunk missing on the back. Surface is all original. No touch ups to the paint. No repairs to the wood or lead ships. Some damage and wear but I would think still collection and display worthy. See photos to determine condition yourself.
